Love Your Eyes: The importance of eye examinations & early detection
Keeler

This World Sight Day, we join the global call to action and encourage you to #LoveYourEyes.
Vision is one of our most precious senses, yet millions of people worldwide live with preventable or untreated sight loss.
By prioritising regular eye examinations, we can all do our bit to help change that.
Why regular eye examinations matter more than ever
Eye health is often overlooked until vision begins to noticeably change. However, many sight-threatening conditions, including Glaucoma, Diabetes & Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Dry AMD) develop silently. Without routine eye checks, early signs like drusen, or subtle retinal changes, may go unnoticed.
Regular eye exams are essential for:
- Early detection of eye diseases that can lead to vision loss if untreated
- Protecting overall health, as eye exams can reveal signs of systemic conditions like diabetes and hypertension and more
- Monitoring changes in vision and identifying risks of progressive eye conditions
- Gaining access to the best vision aids for optimal sight and daily functioning
- Preserving independence and quality of life, especially as we age
- Reducing global blindness, particularly in older populations where risk is highest
Eye exams are not just for those starting to experience symptoms, they’re a preventive measure that should be part of every child and adult’s health routine.
This World Sight Day, please take action
#LoveYourEyes is about both raising awareness AND taking meaningful action.
Here’s how you can make a difference:
- Book an eye exam for yourself or someone you care about
- Educate others on the importance of eye health and regular check-ups
- Support access to eye care in your local community
- And for eyecare professionals? As always, empower your patients with the knowledge to care for their own and others vision
