Keeler supports optometry students’ mission to enhance eye care in Malawi
Keeler
At Keeler, we believe in empowering the next generation of eye care professionals to make a lasting impact on global vision health.
Recently, our UK Business Development Manager, Kate Williams, had the privilege of meeting with 14 students from the Cardiff School of Optometry who are embarking on a meaningful journey to Malawi, Africa, this summer. Joined by UK Sales Executive, Christine Harajda, and Head of UK Sales, Laura Haverley, the Keeler team was honored to donate two ophthalmoscope and retinoscope sets to support these dedicated students on their upcoming trip.
We caught up with Maia, one of the participating students, who shared insights into the profound impact this initiative aims to make: “This June, we are traveling to various parts of Malawi, to provide life-changing eye care. This will include thousands of free eye tests, pairs of glasses, medicines, and helping to fund cataract surgeries. This trip has been incredibly successful in the past, but we are determined to make the biggest possible impact this year.”
Maia emphasised the voluntary nature of this endeavor and the significance of industry support. “This trip is completely voluntary and involves lots of fundraising… the donation of premium equipment from Keeler allows us to perform our outreach and provide the best care possible for the locals. We hope to be able to teach their current students and optometrists the latest methods and technologies as well, to enhance the level of eye care for future generations.”
We are proud to have played a part in supporting this incredible initiative, which aligns with our commitment to advancing vision care worldwide. We look forward to hearing about the remarkable impact these students will make in Malawi and celebrating their achievements upon their return.
By empowering the next generation of eye care professionals and fostering global collaborations, we can work towards a future where access to quality vision care is a reality for communities around the world.
